Summer Sips: Seaglass Pinot Grigio Review
Dive into the world of affordable yet impressive wines with our latest discovery - the Seaglass Central Coast Pinot Grigio 2024. Found on a holiday sale for just $4.99 (normally $12), this bottle proves that quality wine doesn't require emptying your wallet.
Coming from Trinchero Family Wine Estates, a Napa Valley institution since 1948 and the fourth largest family-owned winery in the United States, this Pinot Grigio showcases the expertise behind its creation. The primary grapes are harvested from the Los Alamos Vineyard, located about 20 miles off the Santa Barbara coast, where the Pacific's cooling influence creates perfect growing conditions. What makes this wine particularly special is its thoughtful blend - 97% Pinot Grigio complemented by 2% Albariño and 1% Grüner Veltliner, adding subtle complexity to each sip.
The tasting experience reveals a bright, fresh, and remarkably flavorful profile featuring notes of apple, peach, pear, lemon, and melon. Despite its fruity character, this remains decidedly dry with a well-integrated 13.5% alcohol content. Cold fermented in the traditional Italian style (honoring Trinchero's Italian roots), it offers that "beguiling acidity" that keeps you coming back for more. Unlike its Italian Alto Adige counterparts that typically emphasize citrus, this California expression leans more into luscious fruit flavors - exemplifying why Pinot Grigio is currently having its moment in the spotlight while Chardonnay sales slow down. Whether you're a seasoned wine enthusiast or just looking for an affordable everyday option, this female-crafted wine delivers quality that punches well above its price point. Hey, welcome Domain Dave. Here again for CheapWineFightercom and we got another value priced summer well, all season Pinot Grigio. This is a wine I actually found on a holiday sale because this is a holiday sale, but it's $4.99 normally 12 bucks good deal. That's why we're having it today, because this is a good wine brand at a really good price. It's the Seaglass Central Coast Pinot Grigio 2024.
Speaker 1:There's a number of wines in the Seaglass portfolio and it's a wine from Trinchero, a family wine estates. They've been around in Napa Valley since 1948, and they have 50 different wine and spirits throughout the world. They're like the fourth largest family-owned winery and a wine business in the United States. It comes from a good, it has good parents and the main grapes come from a single vineyard, los Alamos Vineyard, which is about 20 miles off the coast of Santa Barbara, ava, which is about 100 miles north of Los Angeles. And then they add other Central Coast grapes to fill out, just to give it some more texture and flavors, because these less expensive ones a lot of times can use different grapes in different places to bring just that little bit of something extra. That all comes together. So here we go.
Speaker 1:How is it? I'll take a sip, because I already wrote the review on the CheapWineFuttercom website and it was good. This wine is bright and fresh and really flavorful. I mean it's got the kind of flavors you know it's apple and peach and pear and lemon and melon and it's got that kind of thing going on and it's got some really nice acidity, maybe candied acidity, but not sweet. This is definitely a dry wine. It's 13.5 on the alcohol, which is for a pinot grigio is a little strong but it holds it well. Um, it's just that it gets hot out there. I mean it gets 100 degrees and in california, especially southern california, even though santa barbara, where the most of the grapes come from, juts out as a small it's not a peninsula but a small area where most of the vineyards are has cold water from the west, from the north and from the south, so it just cools things off. So this is a nice tasting, should be 12 bucks but on sale, because this, this is a good one.
Speaker 1:And also I'm being told that pinot grigio is having its moment right now. I mean they a lot of stores, they can't get rid of chardonnay, or at least chardonnay slow down, but pinot grigio's picking up. People want the pinot grigio, and I think one of the reasons is that it used to be kind of an acid bomb and now it's kind of a fruit forward, delicious little wine. The this one is, um, cold fermented and in the traditional style, but you whatever that means because it's from Italy and Cianciaro is Italian, you know, based came from Italy initially, so it's got the kind of beguiling acidity that makes you want to take another sip. It's kind of got the fruit that makes you happy once you do it. It's got some citrus, but it's mostly fruit, I would say. I think, like the Alto Adige Italian Pinot Grigios, the money ones from northeastern Italy, those tend to be more citrus to me, and then they are fruit. And these California ones, which are a little warmer, a lot warmer to me, and then they are fruit. And these California ones which are a little warmer, a lot warmer, tend to be more fruit than citrus, which I'll take either way. So there you go. I mean there's not too much to say.
Speaker 1:This is a really tasty, inexpensive, especially when you get it on sale. Well-made, it's a female winemaker who makes the entire Seaglass line of wines and they even have one of those. They even have Sauvignon Blanc and, I think a Pinot Grigio in reduced alcohol too, if you're looking for that. I usually don't look for that. I don't want them to take anything out of my wine, because every time they take something out of the wine they're going to take something like flavor out which I don't want out. But they're getting better at not doing that.
Speaker 1:I'll take another sip and we'll wrap it up. Take another sip and we'll wrap it up. Oh, this is 97% Pinot Grigio, 2% Albarino and 1% Gruner Veltliner, which are all those are. The other two grapes are really delicious grapes too. I'm wishing I had an Albarino and a Gruner with me now, because I love those wines. I don't drink enough of them. Okay, so this is Domain Dave CheapWineFightercom. Check us out at wwwCheapWineFightercom, where we write the reviews and also have links to everything. Now I've got a Chenin Blanc coming up next. We've done one who done before? I think we did a four or five years ago, but it's it's worth repeating. So, adios, keep it cheap, and I'll be talking to me in a day or two. Bye-bye.
