Spanish Orange Infusion: Exploring Tarongino Frizzante with Valencia Oranges
Ever stumbled upon a wine that makes you wonder why you hadn't discovered it sooner? That's exactly what happened when I uncorked the Tarongino Frizzante with Valencia Oranges from Trader Joe's.
This Spanish treasure proves that wine innovation doesn't need to abandon tradition. Built on a foundation of Muscat de Alexandria—one of the world's oldest grape varieties, dating back thousands of years—this lightly sparkling wine offers something genuinely unique. The winemakers have thoughtfully infused it with juice from Valencia oranges, creating a beautiful orange-hued beverage that drinks like a sophisticated, ready-made mimosa but with more character and balance than you might expect.
What truly sets this wine apart is its remarkable restraint. At just 7% alcohol and a mere 51 calories per glass, it's designed for those leisurely afternoons when you want to sip something delightful without worry. The bubbles are gentle (frizzante means it has less carbonation than Prosecco or Champagne), and the sweetness is surprisingly balanced—neither the Muscat nor the orange dominates the experience. Produced by a cooperative of small vineyard owners near Valencia, this $12.99 bottle represents authentic Spanish winemaking tradition with a modern, accessible twist.
Whether you're hosting brunch, looking for a porch sipper, or simply want something refreshing and different, make sure to serve this wine well-chilled—perhaps even in an ice bucket to maintain that ideal temperature. Have you tried any fruit-infused wines that surprised you? Share your experience and let us know if you grab a bottle of this orange delight!

Domain Dave. Hey, welcome, it's Domain Dave. Cheapwinefindercom again with another wine, kind of an unusual wine, let's see. It's $12.99. I think Trader Joe's has the US rights for it, though it's a wine from Spain that is available in other countries, I believe is the Terengino Frisante with Valencia oranges. What that all means is this is a bubbly that they added orange juice to from Valencia. They actually told you what the vineyard owner was and this is from a co-op in Valencia, around Valencia, spain owner was. And this is from a co-op in Valencia, around Valencia, spain.
Speaker 1:Uh, the grape is, uh, muscat de Alexandria, which is one of the oldest grapes around. It's been this way for thousand or two, maybe more years. It's one of the um, it's one of the main grapes that have never been messed with, so it's usually a dessert wine. It's got a little sweetness to it and this wine is more along the lines of a mimosa, one of those things where that's a Prosecco that they put beach beret in. This is just a frizzante. Frizzante is like the lowest level of bubbles of all the sparkling wines. They measure how much atmosphere is in the bottle and that kind of informs you about the bubbles and Champagne's. Like six atmospheres and Prosecco might be three, three and a half. Well, this is one, maybe two. So it's very lightly bubbled. It actually has a screw cap but doesn't have a you know cork or anything. You don't need it, and the bubbles are not that pronounced. Let me pour a little in my glass. Yeah, they don't. They're nice, fine bubbles, but they're not gonna. Yeah, they look good. It looks good. It actually is um orange. I mean it's a um, it doesn't. I mean it looks like a orange popsicle in color, but it's pretty. It would be a great halloween wine because it's kind of has the orange and black thing going. There's no black black and it tastes good.
Speaker 1:It's 7% alcohol, which is very low alcohol for these things, and on the back label it actually has nutritional facts and it's 51 calories per glass. So not only is it low alcohol, it's low calorie too. And while I would imagine, since Muscat d'Alexandria is a dessert wine and a sweeter wine and oranges aren't necessarily sweet but they're ripe, they have that nectar from the juice sweetness. You know, they have that nectar from the juice sweetness. So while this is probably on the sweet side, though the calories tell you it's not too sweet, it doesn't taste that sweet. You don't get that sugary thing going on. I'm gonna take another sip. It doesn't overplay anything. It doesn't overplay the Valencia Oranges. It doesn't overplay play the musket bubbly. It kind of is balanced.
Speaker 1:I wrote in the review that this is the summer sipper that you didn't know you needed $12.99, who knows if they, with the tariffs and everything, if this price will go up, or can they even get it again after a while. But this is not a bad wine. And at $12.99, it also tells you that this isn't a throwaway, inexpensive wine. That's a solid price for a wine of this nature. Like I said, they name where the oranges come from. This isn't a throwaway.
Speaker 1:The winery is a co-op. A co-op is a group of independent um vineyard owners, small ones usually. They might have, they might do, they might grow more than just grapes. You have other things and they band together and sometimes a hundred or more, and they pull their money and they build a winery and they hire a winemaker and then they have the volume to start competing with wines. And this is one of their wines and this is very Spanish.
Speaker 1:I mean, you know, sangria is the white wine that they dump the oranges and all of the spices in there and they like to have the fruit in their wine and it's fun and it drinks well. And this one's fun and it drinks well too. Plus, it's orange and it's low-cal, it's low alcohol. I mean you can sip this all day, you know, like the old days in Europe where you would go to the center of the city and sit at a cafe and just laze the day away sipping on wine and talking and people watching. Well, this is one of those wines you could do it to. At 7% alcohol, you're not really going to overdo it. With not that much sugar involved, you're going to be okay with it. I liked it. I'm going to take another sip and we're going to close this up. There you go. It's the 1299 Trader Joe's wine. I don't think it's available anywhere else.
Speaker 1:Tarantino Frasante with Valencia oranges. It's a bubbly of Muscat d'Axandria infused with quality oranges. What else can you ask for? It sips great. It is a nice drink. Make sure it's chilled. If you're going to eat it, have a drink it. Get a ice bucket so you can keep it cold. The colder the better. This wine's made to be chilled. So there you go. It's a strange one, something I really haven't had too much association with. But mimosas are just fine too. It works, it tastes great and you can enjoy. So, adios, keep it cheap, bye-bye.
