Dive into the world of Oregon Pinot Noir with our exploration of Elouane, the exciting new project from winemaking prodigy Joe Wagner. Following his massive success with Meiomi (which he sold for hundreds of millions), Wagner brings his considerable talents to coastal Oregon vineyards with remarkable results.

The name "Elouane" combines two French words meaning "good light" – a perfect description for this luminous, beautifully crafted Pinot. Unlike wines that focus exclusively on Willamette Valley, this 2022 vintage sources grapes from southwestern, central, and northwestern coastal Oregon, creating a comprehensive taste of what the region has to offer.

What truly sets this wine apart is its stylistic departure from Wagner's previous work. While Meiomi embodied the bold, jammy New World approach, Elouane embraces a more traditional Burgundian profile – elegant, nuanced, and wonderfully balanced. Black cherry and plum notes lead the flavor parade, accompanied by subtle hints of cola, licorice, black pepper, herbs, and spice. The bright acidity creates a mouthwatering experience that keeps you coming back for more.

We were lucky enough to find this gem for just $12.99 (normally $22), making it an extraordinary value in today's market. This isn't your typical casual "patio pounder" – it's a thought-provoking wine that rewards attention while remaining wonderfully drinkable. Whether you're a dedicated Pinot enthusiast or just beginning to explore this noble grape variety, Elouane delivers a memorable experience that will have you wondering, "What was that delicious wine I had last week?" hey, domain dave, cheap wine fightercom. Again, like always, with another wine review podcast. Like we always do um three times a week, we write up value priced uh wine review and then we plug in the fancy microphone and here we are right now with a wine, the elowain I think that's how you pronounce it oregon pinot noir 2022. Elouane is from the same guy, joe wagner, who made the miyomi pinot noir line, and he is the son of chuck wagner, who is camus, that famous world famous. Actually cal, actually California wine. Their Cabernet is one of the most sought after ones. You know he makes good wines and actually each of the children got their own wine brand and Joe did Miomi, which he sold for several hundred million dollars.

Speaker 1:

Here's this new one. This is Elouane. Elouane, if I'm pronouncing it right, e-l-o-u-a-n is two French words together. That means good light and it refers to the sun that shines down on the vines in the vineyard and the divine light. So you get both things going there. So, so you got both things going there. So it's both natural and spiritual. So there you go, and it is a taste of Oregon.

Speaker 1:

This is not a Willamette Valley necessarily. He just like Meomi, I think. What was Meomi? It was Santa Barbara, monterey and Sonoma, I think, originally. I don't think it is anymore. It's been sold off, isn't it? But this is southwestern coastal Oregon, central coastal Oregon and northwestern coastal Oregon. Willamette Valley is in the north, but this is a taste of the whole area. There is more to offer in Oregon than just Willamette Valley and especially if you're doing a value price wine, it doesn't really make sense to spend all your money on trying to get Willamette Valley grapes you know at a price you can afford. When you just go out and you get the best grapes you can, that makes way more sense. And you know, even though the northern Oregon might be deemed as some of the best in the world, the other ones are no slouches.

Speaker 1:

I'm going to take a sip. This is classic Pinot Noir. It's a touch jammy, but not too much. It's a dry wine. Whereas Miomi was the New World Pinot Noir, big and bold, this is more in line with the Burgundian wines. It's got good length to it. I don't think it.

Speaker 1:

The tasting notes didn't mention any oak and if you have the Pinot Noir, skins are kind of are thin, they're not thick and the tannins are in the skins. But if you can get enough tannins out of the skins. You don't really need the oak unless you're looking for flavoring. And this one doesn't need any extra flavor and it tastes really good. Yeah, I mean, as it opens up and I've been tasting this for a while it's got really good fruit flavor. It's got really nice tart flavors here and there Smacks your lip with good acidity. It's got black cherry, it's got plums. There's a little bit of maybe cola in there, maybe licorice, black pepper, herbs, spice. I mean you could pair this with you know the usual suspects of pairing with Pinot Noir.

Speaker 1:

This is a sipping wine. This is a wine that you're sitting around and I keep on thinking about it because it's not quite warm enough yet. But outside, friend comes over neighbors come over you and whoever sitting around shooting the breeze with a nice glass of wine. This is actually a glass of wine that some of the times we talk about patio pounders and stuff. They're not wines that you really that taste good, but you really don't have to pay attention to this one that you probably should pay a little bit of attention. It's got that much going on where you're going to. You'll enjoy it more if you understand it better.

Speaker 1:

Take another sip, I found it for $12.99 on sale, I think. On the website it's $22. So this is no really inexpensive. Being a noir, though I think, since last year was so bad with the wine world and the spirits world everybody was having problems with beer. It took it worse than wine did. You're starting to get some pretty good prices, so keep an eye out Wine. This might have been $16, $17 a year ago and now it's $12 to $13, which is a bargain. I mean, it's definitely a bargain. It's a good tasting, well-made, memorable, because it's going to be a wine you're going to think what did I have last week? Let's get that one again. So there you go.

Speaker 1:

This is the Eloine Oregon Pinot Noir 2022. Good Light, the throw out to French. It's made in the classic style, not the Miomi's New World Big, bold style. This is more long and lean and beautiful. So, adios, keep it cheap. I've got a Lodi California Lodi well, of course, lodi's california, uh cabernet sauvignon coming up in a couple days. So we'll be doing that maybe, I don't know thursday, friday, and I'll be talking to her in a couple days. So keep it cheap, adios, and I'll be talking to you. Bye.
