Budget-Friendly French Rosé: A Trader Joe's Hidden Gem from Familia Perrin
Looking for the perfect summer wine that won't break the bank? We've uncovered a hidden gem that might just become your new warm-weather staple. At just $6.99, La Ferme Julienne Rosé 2023 from Trader Joe's delivers surprising complexity and refreshment that punches well above its modest price tag.
This French rosé comes with an interesting backstory. While it bears the Trader Joe's stamp, it's crafted by respected producer Familia Perrin specifically for the retailer. What makes it unique is how it's produced – using the saignée method, where juice is "bled off" during red wine production, giving this rosé more body and character than many of its peers. The blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Cinsault creates a harmonious balance that works beautifully when properly chilled.
Despite carrying the broader Vin de France designation rather than a specific regional appellation, this wine doesn't disappoint in the glass. It offers bright, refreshing acidity alongside enough flavor complexity to keep things interesting. We found it to be versatile enough to pair with summer staples like fresh salads, cold shrimp, or a diverse cheese board. The 2023 vintage drinks beautifully now, though the 2024 is also becoming available if you prefer the freshest option possible. Whether you're hosting friends or simply unwinding after a long day, this affordable French rosé proves that excellent wine experiences don't require emptying your wallet. Give it a try and let us know what you think of this remarkable value find!

hey, welcome a still main day from cheap wine fighter. Calm again, like always. And today we've got a 699 wine that is Trader Joe's, but not really Trader Joe's. I'll explain that in a second. This is a family Julian Rose a 2023. It is made for them by Familia Perrin, a very, very large wine producer in France, and it's available in retail shops under the exact same name. And the reason I don't know why it might be a Trader Joe's exclusive the fearless flyer for trader joe's says that the blend is syrah, grenache, senso. If you go to uh family paren's website for the same name, there it's senso, grenache syrah. The grapes are in a different order. So it's so you're hoping when you're supposed to. When you write about a wine, you write the largest proportion, first, second, third. That's how it's supposed to be and hopefully that's what Trader Joe's did. Otherwise they're exactly the same, but I think they're a little bit different because they did say this is a wine that they've had made for them for the last three years. So I think this is a special bottling. You might like one better than the other. You might not be able to tell the difference, but if you change wine you can usually tell the difference. I'm gonna take a sip.
Speaker 1:This is a wine that isn't. It's a Vin de France wine, which means it's from all over. It's not IGP, it's not Vin de Paz, it's not AOC. It's kind of a French equivalent to having you know California on the label, which means it could be from pretty much anywhere in California. That's not something that the French do. The French are all about terroir. The location is important, so that's a little bit different here and then it's not from one area. But they do sell a lot of this and I imagine they had to add to where they're getting their grapes from. So it's not bad, unless the wine turns out bad, and it didn't. This is a senny. Senny, it's one of those words that I've only seen written and never had anybody pronounce. For me.
Speaker 1:It is the way of. It's one of the two main ways of making um, a rosé, and what this is is they're making a red wine. I just they're doing everything, like when they're crushing the grapes and all that. They're doing it as if it's a red wine and it, when the grapes become a certain color, they they run off part of that, usually a good, a good percentage of whatever it is to become a rosé. So it's basically stopped from being a red wine and turned into a rosé. And what that does? It concentrates the flavors of the red wine and it makes a little bit of a bolder rosé, because some rosés are meant to be rosés from the get-go.
Speaker 1:This was born a red wine and it was changed slightly after birth, which is kind of a gross way of talking about it. So what we have here, let's taste it. It's $6.99 and it's um and it's really good. It's got a nice nose, bright and refreshing. It's got good acidity gives a flavor, almost complexity. There's a lot of flavor in there, all of the subtle to rosé. It's not to hit you over the head with this flavor, but it's um, it tastes pretty good and for $6.99 this you know there's rosé. Well, rosé is um. At one time it was flavor of the month and my local wine shop used to have a um, a rose aisle, rosé aisle that was like 10 yards long, and now it's 10 feet long. It's kind of slowed down the rush to rosé.
Speaker 1:But this $6.99 rosé is good enough to be your rosé of the summer. It's got good acidity, it's got good flavor, it's well made. Its provenance isn't all that exciting. You see how it's made and you go hmm, I don't know about this, but once you open up the bottle and take a sip and you put a nice chill on it and it's like man, this is pretty good. So there you go it's a $6.99 wine that might be a little bit different in the retail shop than it is a Trader Joe's I think they're both. $6.99 at Trader Joe's is kind of low, but I think you can get this at sale at a retail shop for something close.
Speaker 1:That's a pretty little French rosé. It's got enough body to pique your interest. I mean, if you're going to have a, you're going to need salads with this cold shrimp, that type of stuff If you want to, or a cheese tray, you know that kind of thing. It'll do well there because it does have flavor. Good flavor goes with good food. Let's get another sip of it and we'll hit the road. Yep, that's it for me. Domain Dave fightercom. La ferme julienne rose 2023. The 2024 is out, as usual with these inexpensive wines getting the newest ones usually the best, but 2023 will probably be just as good. I don't think you can tell the difference, but try not to get anything any older vintage than that, and I'll be talking to you in a couple of days, like always, because hopefully we'll get some warm weather before too long, and that always what's the pout. So, adios, keep it cheap and I'll be talking to you. Adios, bye-bye.
